¡Pájaros Sin Fronteras! (Birds Without Borders)
September 21 @ 8:00 am - 11:00 am
Audubon Rockies, Bird Conservancy of the Rockies, Colorado State University Environmental Learning Center, The Gardens on Spring Creek, and Trees, Water & People are excited to present ¡Pájaros Sin Fronteras! (Birds Without Borders) a FREE community celebration that spotlights migratory birds during their annual fall migration as they travel south to Mexico and Central America.
¡Pájaros Sin Fronteras! provides guests with an opportunity to meet real scientists and natural resource professionals and learn about bird migration, healthy habitats, and simple ways to help birds around their homes and in their communities. The event connects residents to the natural world through unique, hands-on experiences and useful resources, sharing insights about plants, habitats, migration and ways to make a positive difference for birds here and beyond our borders.
¡Pájaros Sin Fronteras! will feature a bird banding station where visitors will be able to see wild birds up close while scientists collect data, deepening their understanding of the natural world through a truly memorable experience. These stations not only serve to collect data that is critical in aiding cross-continental conservation efforts, but also present a unique way of introducing young people to careers in science. A few lucky participants will even be able to help release some of these newly-banded birds back into the wild!
Birds migrate across borders and are vibrant cultural ambassadors. Species like the Bullock’s Oriole spend their winters in Central America and fly all the way to Colorado for the summer. Their diverse natural histories and borderless nature make them a terrific way to explore our sense of place at home while deepening global perspectives and cross-cultural connections. In the spirit of the multicultural theme, bilingual (Spanish-English) staff and resources will be available. Participants can also enjoy Smithsonian-certified bird-friendly fair trade coffee from Central America and breakfast burritos from Lupita’s Mexican Restaurant.
This event is made possible through the generous support of New Belgium Brewing Co., Wild Birds Unlimited Nature Shop in Fort Collins, and the City of Fort Collins.
